pelvis.<\/p>\n<p>While peritoneal mesothelioma used to have a poor health outlook, many patients treated at the Washington Cancer Institute now live full, active lives.<\/p>\n<h3>Surgery<\/h3>\n<p>The Washington Cancer Institute has several types of <a href=\"\/treatment\/surgery\/\">surgery<\/a> for peritoneal mesothelioma and other abdominal cancers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These cancer surgeries Some patients can live for 15 years or more with this treatment.<\/p>\n<h3>Chemotherapy<\/h3>\n<p>Depending on the type of cancer and how far it extends, patients may need <a href=\"\/treatment\/chemotherapy\/\">chemotherapy<\/a> before or after surgery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chemotherapy may be administered:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Before surgery:<\/strong> If the tumor is growing quickly, chemotherapy may be needed before surgery.
