Mesothelioma From Asbestos on Navy Ships<\/h2>\n

Anyone who worked on or near Navy ships from the 1930s to the early 1980s could have been exposed to asbestos, the only known cause of mesothelioma cancer<\/a>. Asbestos was used in many products on naval ships to make them more fireproof and seaworthy. Over 3,300 vessels<\/strong> are now known to have contained asbestos-based materials.<\/p>\n

When equipment like pipes and boilers were installed or repaired, they released clouds of asbestos<\/a>. Because of the close quarters and poor ventilation on Navy ships, service members could easily breathe in or swallow asbestos fibers. This can lead to health complications later on, with some Navy veterans developing mesothelioma 10-50 years after asbestos exposure.<\/p>\n
